Arpan Benefits from ESF Funding

Arpan Christian.

[Measure 3.2]

Arpan Christian moved to England from India in December 2003. Having gained experience within the care sector whilst living in India, Arpan wanted to continue his career and so gained employment at a local private care home.

Working as part of a very supportive team, Arpan was encouraged by his Manager and colleagues to gain the appropriate qualifications that would enable him to progress within the Health Care sector, and so he started his Level 2 Care NVQ.

Arpan completed his Level 2 qualification in December 2005 and awaited the funding opportunity to start his Level 3 award.

In May 2006, that opportunity came when VTS, who had successfully bid for funding from the European Social Fund, were able to offer Arpan the support he needed. Subsequently he started his Level 3 NVQ on the ‘Adult Skills Progression in Care’ programme, and in just 7 months had achieved his qualification.

“My managers and colleagues were a tremendous help; and provided me with the support and encouragement I needed to complete my NVQ”.

Arpan now works for BUPA and also in the Accident and Emergency department at Southend General Hospital, and is due to start his Level 4 NVQ in Care Management in the near future.
