The Women in Broadcast project aims to address the under-representation of women in the Media industry by providing further development and training in broadcast. The project targeted 24 women who had some training or work experience in broadcasting and provided a modular-based programme which encouraged women to choose their progression route into employment.

Under Objective 3 measure 5.1, Connections Communications Centre, received £51,383 from the ALG ESF Co-financing Programme.

All beneficiaries had the opportunity to produce a short film during their time on the course. A number of the beneficiaries progressed to achieve a London Open College Network (LOCN) qualification in Video and Web Production.

Experiences on Cross Cutting Themes

Sustainable Development: The project was delivered in partnership with the BBC and the Community Channel, a channel dedicated to community based issues broadcast on Sky TV. Through this partnership the project provided mentors and gave job advice and guidance to the beneficiaries to tackle female under-representation in the technical area of industry.

Equal Opportunities: The programme provided the opportunity to give women skills that would secure them jobs in technical areas currently dominated by men. The programme provided the scope for beneficiaries to attend workshops in camera, lighting, editing, production and web design.

ICT: ICT was central to the training provided. Beneficiaries had access to an interactive media suite boasting eleven networked G4's with monitors and midiman keyboards. These were loaded with Final Cut Pro, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Flash, Appleworks and Cubase. Each was connected to 2mbs of broadband for stwebcasting.
