They call it the information superhighway, and it's the chosen route for a group of Salford Uni students looking to fast-track their careers in media, music and performance art.
The students have developed their own website to show off their skills using a £100,000 ESF grant. Freeflowuk provides a vital link between students, employers and agents in the music and media industry, and covers a multitude of musical styles, including jazz, rock, and dance. The site even contains a brass band section, illustrating the diversity of talent on offer.
Students involved in video production have the chance to show why they may be the next Stanley Kubrick, Spike Jonze, Federico Fellini, or, perish the thought, Ed Wood, with downloadable examples of their craft.
The site also features industry news and articles supplied by current media students, and an e-learning resource.
Madonna recently successfully broadcast an exclusive concert live over the internet - a webcast - and one of the project's aims is to provide students with practical experience in how to exploit the world's newest marketing medium, the internet, in order to put their work in the global shop window.
