European Social Fund Division is based within the Department for Work and Pensions. The Division is responsible for ensuring that European Social Fund (ESF) money in England is used to support and add value to national employment and skills priorities, in line with EU regulations.

Students or people looking for help with training - The European Social Fund does not provide maintenance grants or other types of training allowances. Please see Directgov for further help.

Training providers – If you wish to bid for ESF funding to run a training project please see funding opportunities.

Please contact your Government Office or Co-financing Organisation if you have specific queries about the implementation of ESF at regional and local level.
