James Plaskitt, Work and Pensions Minister for ESF (pictured right), welcomed the roll out of new ESF projects in London at an ESF conference on 4 June.
‘The London ESF Story’ event was organised by the London Voluntary Sector Training Consortium on behalf of the Mayor of London and Government Office for London.
Held at Chelsea Football Club, the event attracted around 300 delegates and formally launched the 2007-2013 ESF programme in London. It also celebrated the achievements of the 2000-2006 ESF programme which helped 750,000 Londoners improve their job prospects and skills.
The audience included ESF partners from third sector and private providers, Co-financing Organisations, local authorities, colleges and members of the London ESF committee. Delegates heard speeches from James Plaskitt, Ian Clement, the Deputy Mayor, and Santiago Loranca-Garcia from the European Commission.
Speaking at the conference, James Plaskitt said,
"I welcome the start of the 205 new ESF projects in London. They will target people in our capital city who need that extra help to gain skills, find jobs and succeed at work. Our priority is to support those who, despite record employment levels, remain out of work, giving people new life-changing opportunities."
A number of projects and participants from the 2000-2006 ESF programme gave presentations and ESF achievements were showcased in a supporting exhibition.
